The cookies are flavorful and delicious. However, at approximately $40/dozen, they are also a little on the expensive side. Don’t worry, though, if you can bake, you can make this copycat version and nobody will ever know the difference.
Budget Friendly Ingredients
You can buy everything you need to make these copycat birthday cake cookies for under 40 dollars. And the best part is that you’ll be able to make dozens! Plus, you can personalize them by changing up the sprinkles and the icing color.
For the cookies, you’ll need butter, flour, sugar, powdered sugar, baking powder, eggs, salt, cake batter extract, vanilla extract, and sprinkles.
The icing is made with cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and cake batter extract. All very simple ingredients and very affordable. And, as someone who bakes all the time, I can tell you there’s no need to spend extra money on name brands for these cookies. I used store-brand ingredients for this recipe, and they turned out great.

- 1 cup butter softened
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 6 tbsp powdered sugar
- 2 eggs room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cake batter extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 4 tbsp sprinkles
Birthday Cake Cookie Frosting
- 8 oz cream cheese softened
- 6 tbsp butter softened
- ½ tsp cake batter extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Birthday Cake Cookie
- Preheat oven to 350 °F . Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or other cookie pan liner. Set aside and prepare cookie dough.
- In large mixing bowl, cream the butter, sugar, and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add in eggs, cake batter and vanilla extracts and continue mixing until well combined.
- Next, add in flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix just until all ingredients are well combined and flour is no longer visible. Do not overmix. Stir in sprinkles by hand.
- Use a large cookie scoop to evenly scoop 6 cookie dough balls onto each baking sheet. Next, gently flatten scooped dough until about 1 inch thick. Bake cookies in oven for 12 minutes. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5-10 minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.
- Meanwhile while cookies are cooling, prepare the frosting.
Birthday Cake Cookie Frosting
- Cream together cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy. Add in cake batter extract and powdered sugar. Continue mixing until all ingredients are well combined and frosting is light and fluffy.
- Place frosting in piping bag with large round tip, or use a Ziploc bag with end cut off. Pipe frosting on cooled cookies and sprinkle with additional sprinkles. Serve cookies and enjoy!
